You Can Be the Difference
Here at Partners Mentoring Youth, we consistently have over 100 youth who are waiting for a mentor, and we want to keep these youth engaged in group activities. We created a group as part of our Community-Based Program that we call our Nexus group.
Partners hosts fun and educational activities every month for our youth in Nexus, and our Activity Volunteers help facilitate these activities.
What Does It Mean to Be an Activity Volunteer?
Nexus Activity Volunteers build relationships with multiple Nexus youth on a smaller time-scale and help lead and facilitate activities. We generally ask that Nexus volunteers transport assigned youth to and from the activity, and help them engage in the group. Our Nexus Activity Volunteer opportunity is great for individuals who:
- Want to work directly with our youth, but cannot commit to the Senior Partner role
- Want to quickly build a rapport with multiple children
- Have limited availability
- Love taking part in fun and exciting activities
- Want to familiarize themselves with our program and the youth we serve
How Do These Activities Make a Difference for Youth?
We shape these activities to help youth gain experience with community service, building life skills, and enjoying recreational opportunities. Research shows that these safe, drug- and alcohol-free activities are successful in countering factors that put youth at risk, as well as assisting in positive growth and development.
We host a range of different activities, including:
- Cooking Classes
- Laser Tag
- Colorado Rockies Game
- Arts and Crafts Projects
- Astronomy Night
- Community Volunteering
- A Fishing Derby
